the quality, production, expression, or realm, according to aesthetic principles, of what is beautiful, appealing, or of more than ordinary significance.
LeiSha Starchia began drawing very early in life. She was born in Queens, NY, into a family of artist. Her family consists of visual artist, musicians, dancers, writers, and seamstress. She found herself to be so painfully shy that she spent much of her time daydreaming and looking at the world from the other side of the window. Her love for music, dance, and the arts has always been the way for Leisha to express herself. Being born into a family of artist, the arts were always all around her. She did not realize that she had artistic abilities that were different from others until grammar school when her classmates started asking her to draw images for them and she started winning local art contest.
Artist LeiSha Starchia has been working in Atlanta as an artist for the past sixteen years. She has a degree in both Visual Communication and Fine Art. Starchia has been commissioned to do art for both private and corporate clients including Jack Daniels, NAACP, LaFace, Arista, Lavar Burten, Charly Palmer, India.Arie, Ruby Dee, The Ossie Davis Endowment to name a few. Starchia’s art has been shown in galleries and museums throughout the southeast and she has been commissioned to do several murals in public and private schools.
Starchia’s love for color and movement is very evident in her art. Her passion is people and the human experience. “I want my art to wrap around you like a warm blanket on a cold day."
Among Starchia’s most recent works is her exploration into mental illness. She debuted her one woman show, “Time To Heal” chronicling her relationship with a person diagnosed schizophrenic, in April 2007. “Time To Heal” is currently a traveling exhibition.
